Michael Hollman

Michael Hollman

Michael Hollman is the Organist and Director of Music at Zion and has served here since 1984.

He received the degree Bachelor of Music Education in 1982 from Indiana University in Fort Wayne. That same year, he was awarded a full scholarship and graduate assistantship to the University of Notre Dame, from where he later received the degree Master of Music in Organ Performance and Literature in 1984. His principal instructors have included Richard Carlson, Darwin Leitz, and Craig Cramer. Michael has also received additional coaching from Timothy Albrecht, David Briggs, Maurice Clerc, David Craighead, Hans Davidsson, Carla Edwards, Robert Glasgow, John Gouwens, David Hennig, James Higdon, Thomas Mitts, John Obetz, Jack Ruhl, Russell Saunders, and Mickey Thomas Terry.

In addition to performing annual organ recitals at Zion, Michael appears frequently as recitalist throughout the Midwest, as accompanist in recitals, choral concerts, and hymn festivals, and as lecturer in workshops on both service playing and organ literature. Michael has served as a member of The Board of Worship and Spiritual Care for the Indiana District of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and was the organist for the 2010 Installation Service of the President of the LCMS, Rev. Matthew Harrison. Since 1993, Michael has served as preliminary judge for the prestigious National Organ Playing Competition. Michael is also active in the American Guild of Organists, having served as the Director of the Program Committee for the Region V 2001 Convention of the American Guild of Organists.
